CORE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND CLIMATE INTELLIGENT GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE

 

BACKGROUND: In the developing countries and especially in countries like India, the natural resources available in abundance so far have been abused for lack of appreciation of their value. The result has been depleted groundwater situations, lack of proper breathing air and many other problems. Today, situations have arisen where water and air have to be “purchased” for survival in many parts of the world. Groundwater suitable for irrigation purposes and drinking in villages has emerged as a serious problem in many part of India and unless serious steps are initiated to a proper use of this vital resource, disastrous situations are in the offing in the near future itself. International organizations have been warning the country for a more careful and effective deployment of this limited resource for the survival of the present and future generations.

 

The overall development of any Climate Intelligent Ecosystems is a long drawn process and involves many agencies, inputs, initiatives, and interventions. The laudable intentions of the Government are often frustrated due to some slippages in one or many of these component implementations. In addition, the general approach of sanctioning the individual programs on a footloose basis would often confound the manifestation of benefits in isolated islands, making it difficult for the programs to create a sea change effect.
